Coffee Talk: Supporting First-Gen Students at KSU

"Coffee Talk" is a professional development workshop sponsored by the Department of First-Year and Transition Studies. In this session, presenters will offer strategies for supporting first-generation college students based on their experiences working in the First-Gen Owls Learning Community over the 2017-2018 academic year. The presentation will explore a philosophy of working from a strengths-development approach rather than a deficit framework, and will share how faculty structure assignments to promote deep, integrative learning and a sense of belonging at KSU.
