First-Year Convocation is an annual tradition at Kennesaw State University.
The ceremony, which resembles graduation, includes a procession of faculty dressed in academic regalia (caps and gowns), a tradition that dates back to the 12th century when scholars were clerics. New students learn from the university’s top administrators and others about the importance of a college education, the responsibilities of an educated citizen, and the value of a degree from Kennesaw State University.
Other than commencement four years from now, this may be the only large gathering of students to be addressed by the KSU President, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (KSU's Chief Academic Officer), Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dean of University College.
First-Year Convocation marks an important milestone in the academic career of incoming students at KSU. All first-year students as well as their family and friends are invited to attend this ceremony that celebrates KSU's newest members as they join our community of scholars.
