Strategic Outreach Initiatives
University College believes it is important to establish formal strategic relationships
to serve students as they travel along their educational journey. Our Strategic Outreach
& Diversity Initiatives unit provides a structural connection for a variety of signature
programs—Achieve Atlanta, Coca-Cola Scholars, Thrive and REACH Ga. Programming is
in place to enrich the academic success, improve retention, and strengthen engagement
of targeted student populations. Building on University College’s mission of promoting
diversity and inclusion as a vital part of student success, key populations served
include first-generation students, veterans, nontraditional students, under-served
groups, and students from rural/urban locations. The goal of the unit is to recruit,
retain, and provide academic support services and co-curricular programming that will
result in degree completion.
Achieve Atlanta Campus Liason
Professor Bullard serves as the facilitator of all administrative logistics for Kennesaw State's Achieve Atlanta Program. Duties in this role include the recruitment of students from the Atlanta Public
School System and work with campus partners to assure resources and programming are
available to the program's scholars. Additionally, his credentials include expertise
in Organizational Leadership, Interdisciplinary Studies as well as a penchant for
understanding the learning needs of diverse student populations and how to aid them
in their academic, professional and leadership development.
Linda Lyons, Ed.D.
Director of Strategic Outreach & Diversity Initiatives
Responsible for daily oversight of the college’s strategic planning process, diversity
initiatives, as well as oversee University College’s student outreach programs such
as Coca-Cola Scholars, Thrive, and Achieve Atlanta. Dr. Lyons is an Associate Professor
of Education and has published on the scholarship of teaching and learning that is
germane to multicultural education. Her research concentration examines intercultural
competence in higher education through a collaborative approach with campus constituents
and other stakeholders when developing and executing cultural awareness curriculum
and co-curricular initiatives.
Shae Smith, M.A.
Co-curricular Program Specialist
Responsible for daily oversight of co-curricular programming, recruitment and enrollment
for the Thrive program, as well as co-curricular and academic support for students
in Achieve Atlanta and the Coca-Cola Scholars programs. Ms. Smith is formerly a lecturer,
having taught the first-year seminar and communication courses for nearly a decade,
after serving in leadership in the non-profit sector and higher education. She brings
experience in program and organizational leadership, and community partnerships, as
well as a broad knowledge of students in transition into University College's strategic
Serves as primary point person for project development for UC’s Strategic Outreach
Initiatives. Anne brings years of experience in operational management. Responsible
for analyzing and developing strategies for new projects, provide recommendations
and direction to achieve project goals and ensures that the unit’s goals relate to
special projects and outreach operations. She will also assist in grant proposal writing
and fundraising activities.
REACH Georgia Campus Liaison
Duties in this role include assisting incoming students participating in the REACH
Ga. program with their transition to college, working with campus partners to assure
resources and programming are available to the program's scholars, as well as assisting
in future initiatives, community outreach programming, and training/workshops for
students and REACH Ga. stakeholders.
